I went to lunch the other day with Mike Smith, an attorney, with Smith Barid. During our lunch, Mike started telling me about some great VA benefits for those over 65. As Mike explained, subject to certain income limits, any one over the age of 65, who served in the military during war time (or their spouse served) can potentially get increased pension benefits and medical expense assistance. The benefits can go as high as $5,000 per month. Since we have a number of older clients, it was easy to think of a few who might benefit. When I left lunch I called a client I had dealt with earlier in the week who I thought might qualify. The client qualified and we were able to get the ball rolling on getting them the benefits. You should check out Mike’s blog post for more details or to see if you qualify for the benefits. You can also follow him on Twitter @smithbarid.
